EXECUTIVE COACHING GUIDE
Group Coaching vs One-to-One Executive Coaching: Which Is Right for You?
If you're considering executive coaching, one of the biggest decisions you'll make is whether to invest in one-to-one coaching or a group coaching programme.
The truth is, neither is universally better. The right choice depends on your goals, the type of support you're looking for, and how you learn best
In this guide I'll compare:
- both approaches honestly
- including where one-to-one coaching excels
- where group coaching offers unique advantages and
- why I designed 3SIXTY Leaders Club to combine the best of both worlds.

Quick Answer: One to One vs Group Coaching?
Choose one-to-one executive coaching if you:
- Need to do deep personal mindset work where emotions are high
- Need private support with a highly personal challenge
- Want intensive individual coaching with just one person
- Are navigating a significant career decision
- Need confidential space to work through complex issues
Choose group coaching if you:
- Want to grow as a leader over time
- Learn from other likeminded senior leaders
- Value accountability and different perspectives
- Want ongoing coaching, training and support
- Want to expand your network and feel less lonely
What Is One-to-One Executive Coaching?
One-to-one executive coaching is a confidential, personalised partnership between a leader and a professionally trained coach. Rather than giving advice or teaching a fixed curriculum, the coach creates the space for the client to think more clearly, increase self-awareness and find their own solutions.
As an Executive Coach trained to ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC) standards, I coach using the International Coaching Federation's evidence-based coaching competencies. That means I don't tell clients what to do or become the expert in their life or career. Instead, I ask powerful questions that help leaders uncover their own insights, make better decisions and take ownership of meaningful change.
One of the fundamental principles of ICF coaching is that the client leads the agenda. Every session begins with what feels most important to the client that day, making coaching highly personalised and relevant to their immediate challenges.
For leaders navigating significant career decisions, this personalised approach can be incredibly powerful.
One-to-One Executive Coaching is best suited if you:
✔ You're making a significant career decision and need space to think clearly.
✔ You're navigating a deeply personal challenge that requires complete confidentiality.
✔ You want to explore limiting beliefs, values or mindset patterns in greater depth, almost like therapy.
✔ You need dedicated time to reflect without the influence of others.
✔ You're looking for a thinking partner who will help you uncover your own answers, rather than teach you leadership tools and frameworks.
Where One-to-One Coaching Isn't Always Enough
One-to-one executive coaching is incredibly powerful, but it's important to understand what coaching is and what it isn't.
Professional coaching isn't training, mentoring or consulting. Under the International Coaching Federation (ICF) coaching model, the client leads the agenda. The coach doesn't decide what you need to learn or teach leadership frameworks. Instead, they help you think more deeply about the topics you choose to bring to each session.
That approach creates powerful insights but it also has limitations. As leaders, we don't know what we don't know.
If you've never learned how to delegate effectively, build your executive presence, influence senior stakeholders or build confidence after a setback, those topics may never naturally emerge in one-to-ones.
What Is Group Coaching?
Group coaching brings together a group of leaders who are committed to growing their leadership capability together. Unlike traditional classroom training, participants don't simply consume information. They learn through discussion, reflection, coaching conversations and real workplace experiences shared by other leaders.
One of the greatest strengths of group coaching is perspective. Rather than hearing one viewpoint, you're exposed to multiple ways of thinking, different leadership styles and practical experiences from leaders facing similar challenges.
Many women tell me one of the biggest breakthroughs comes from realising they aren't the only one struggling with confidence, executive presence, difficult conversations or imposter syndrome. That sense of shared experience reduces isolation and often accelerates growth.
Group Coaching is best suited if you:
You want ongoing leadership development
You enjoy learning from other experienced leaders
You value different perspectives and being around high-achievers
You want accountability and to form friendships with likeminded women
You enjoy discussing real workplace situations with women who get it
You want to continue developing professionally and personally beyond a handful of coaching sessions
Is Group Coaching as Effective as One-to-One Coaching?
This is one of the questions I'm asked most often. The honest answer?
It depends on what you're trying to achieve.
If you're navigating redundancy, burnout, a major confidence crisis or a complex personal situation, one-to-one coaching is often the most appropriate starting point. However, leadership isn't something that develops in isolation.
Many of the challenges leaders face like confidence in the face of conflict, executive presence, influencing stakeholders, communicating with confidence, managing difficult conversations and leading through uncertainty are strengthened by group learning and hearing different perspectives and practising new ways of thinking alongside other experienced leaders.
One of the biggest advantages of group coaching is that every session gives you access to multiple leaders' experiences rather than just one coach's perspective. Instead of learning from a single conversation, you benefit from the collective wisdom of an entire room.
Why I Designed 3SIXTY Leaders Club Differently
After coaching hundreds of women leaders, I noticed something interesting. One-to-one coaching can create incredible breakthroughs. But if you don't have practical tools and frameworks you need to thrive, you can only get so far. The women who experienced the greatest long-term transformation had something more.
They continued developing themselves, stayed accountable and surrounded themselves with ambitious women who challenged their thinking.
They kept practising new leadership behaviours long after individual coaching sessions had finished.
That's why I created 3SIXTY Leaders Club.
Rather than choosing between coaching, leadership training, psychological communication and influencing tools, networking or mentoring, members receive all of them in one place.
Inside 3SIXTY you'll find:
Intimate group coaching sessions
Practical leadership masterclasses
Leadership Confidence coaching
Leadership mentoring
Peer learning with experienced women leaders
Leadership tools and resources
Accountability and community
Ongoing support throughout the year
Because real leadership isn't built in isolation in a single coaching session. It's developed through continuous learning, reflection and taking imperfect action in a safe space with likeminded women who get it. In 3SIXTY its safe to be vulnerable, you don't need all the answers.
