#87 How to Switch Off from Work and Be Present at Home For Women Leaders

The 360 Leadhership Podcast, Episode 87, 23 August 2023 by Lucy Gernon

Do you find it hard to switch off from work and be present at home?

Let’s face it, work can sometimes take over our lives, leaving us feeling exhausted and disconnected. And this can create resentment towards it, right?

You’re tired. Work emails and tomorrow’s to-do list swirl around in your head. You want to be able to close down the laptop, turn off the phone and not think about it so you can refresh and re-energise.

It’s a tale as old as time – finding a balance between work and personal life can be tough. I worked in the corporate world managing teams for 20 years and now run my own international business, so I know this feeling all too well.

That’s why in episode 87 of The Powerhouse Revolution Podcast, I’m sharing 3 powerful techniques to help you disconnect from work and truly savour those precious moments with your loved ones.

Here’s a little taster:

1. Create a Digital Detox Routine:

I get it, the idea of a digital detox may sound about as exciting as watching paint dry, but trust me, it’s a game-changer. In this technology-crazy world of ours, it’s so important to set some boundaries with technology.

No more excuses! Designate specific times to unplug from those work emails, calls, and notifications. Put it in your work diary or use your phone to set reminders. Break free from your devices and give your undivided attention to the people who truly matter…or one day you’ll look up from the laptop and they’ll be gone.

2. Embrace Your Inner Zen

Now, I know what you’re thinking – mindfulness? Isn’t that just some new-age mumbo jumbo? (That’s what I thought – until I tried it) Mindfulness is not just for the free-spirited hippies out there. It’s a powerful tool that can help you find your centre in your fast-paced world.

Take a moment to pause, reflect, and practice mindfulness. You don’t have to sit cross-legged on a mountaintop (although, if that’s your thing, go for it!). Find a quiet space, take a deep breath, and let go of all that stress. Go on YouTube and look up short guided meditations to start with. Trust me, it’s like hitting the reset button for your mind and soul.

3. Learn to Lead Yourself

You’re a force to be reckoned with, my friend. So why not bring that same level of leadership to your own life? It’s time to step up your self-leadership game. Don’t wait around for someone else to tell you to switch off and prioritise your personal life. Take charge and create solid habits that support your well-being.

Whether it’s shutting down that laptop at a specific time, locking away your phone, or implementing any other boundary that works for you, do whatever it takes to disconnect and focus on the things that truly light you up. Remember, you’re more than just your job or business – you’re a fierce, multifaceted woman who deserves a life filled with success, balance and happiness.
